Now, humans wake up not to bird song or the warm rays of the sun, but to the buzzing of their phones, signaling another day of early morning notifications. Instead of getting out of bed and looking out the window, the first actions performed include swiping and liking.
Curated versions of one's life are available now for viewing on different social media platforms, eliminating the need to personally interact with oneself upon waking up. Coffee is still a part of the daily ritual and while drinking it used to be sacred, in the modern world it's always rushed. Breakfast on the other hand, is either skipped or eaten on the go. In a rush to perform all tasks in the expensive beauty of silicon valley, people also commute with an interesting soundtrack of the latest podcasts, their go-to playlist or even silence.
Amidst all the chaos in the world lies a storm of thoughts relating to bills, dreams, and unread messages, forming in people's brains. In the age of everyone being interconnected, some people seem to be endlessly chasing for piece while others are out looking for purpose.
Now, workspaces have changed alongside the rest of the world, with cubicles and stuffy coffee shops losing their appeal and modern homes taking the crown. People are now working from the comfort of kitchen tables, a new addition to the list of homey workspaces.
Pings coming from Slack have now turned into modern typewriter calls, further adding to the serenity of work life. All these things happening are exceptionally tiring – but not in the way you think. Besides being drained physically, the stimuli present nowadays leave people emotionally drained. The gap between the hyperconnectivity present in everybody’s life and the deep yearning for genuine social connection creates is empty but quickly filled with endless scrolling feels like an unnaturally terrifying paradox.
Some people can be seen laughing loudly, interacting with friends across borders, or even falling in love but with love nowadays being exclusively virtual. It's more common to get ghosted or unceremoniously dumped and have to try again and again. Although social media and online platforms provide a facade of connection, they post only the best versions of their lives, filled with picture-perfect days while hiding the messs of their worst.
